TEC is recruiting for two (2) Vehicle Technicians for a local transportation company.
Position Summary
A Vehicle Technician’s primary responsibilities are to provide for the safe and efficient operation of transportation services through proper and required maintenance of the vehicles.
All applicants must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with a Passenger “P” Endorsement and without an Air-Brake Restriction. Applicants with a Class A CDL, but who lack the necessary Passenger Endorsement must be in possession of a Massachusetts CDL Passenger “P” Endorsement Permit.
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
Essential Functions
- Aid the Director of Maintenance in the completion of all daily, weekly, and monthly scheduled vehicle and buildings/grounds repairs and inspections.
- Ensure vehicles operate in a safe, comfortable condition by performing highest quality maintenance repairs on all aspects of vehicle systems.
- Perform thorough and complete quality preventive maintenance inspections on all vehicles and equipment assigned to the property.
- Diagnose and repairs to mechanical, electrical, computer, HVAC, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and gas/diesel engines, with supervision and help as needed.
- Complete on-road calls, on-the-road repairs, and road tests as needed.
- Complete all necessary paperwork, and computer input tasks.
- Maintain Company tools and equipment in a clean and working order.
- Work well with all other departments, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner.
- Demonstrate the ability to comprehend maintenance manuals, parts books, and electrical diagrams.
- Report all discrepancies to include paperwork, inventory, computer input, safety, etc., to the on-duty supervisor so that corrective actions can be made immediately.
- Show initiative and desire for improvement and advancement.
Non-Essential Functions
- Attend regular trainings as scheduled by the department supervisor and/or Assistant General Manager.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisors, Director of Maintenance, Assistant General Manager, or General Manager, as required.
Position Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have a high school diploma, or graduate equivalency degree (GED);
- Have documented training from mechanical trade school in the areas of gasoline engine and diesel engine vehicle repair;
- Have a documented training in the areas of automotive and heavy-duty truck repair to include HVAC, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Have general and working knowledge of modern office computer systems, such as the Microsoft Office products.
- Have reliable transportation both to and from work.
- Meet the minimum Federal Motor Carrier Regulations for age and physical condition.
- Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Pass a pre-employment DOT physical.
- Have working knowledge of basic math, map reading, diagram reading, and time telling.
- Be able to multitask while working with others efficiently.
- Complete accurate, legible, and factual written reports.
- Possess a Valid CDL, with a Passenger Endorsement, and without an Air Brakes Restriction.
- Be able to obtain a valid Bus Operators License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU), this will be sponsored by the Company if an offer is extended.
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Be able sit for durations of up to two continuous hours, as well as stand, kneel, and crouch as needed.
- Have a minimum of (1) year of maintenance experience.
- Have experience working in a vehicle repair and maintenance facility.
- Preferably have at least two (2) years of buildings and grounds maintenance experience, but not required.
Licensing
- Qualified applicants must possess a Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements. If an applicant does not have a CDL license, they must first obtain a Massachusetts CDL Class B Permit with the required endorsements. If a job offer is extended, the organization will then provide paid CDL Class B public transit bus operator training to the applicant.
- Qualified applicants must possess a Massachusetts 2A-1C Hoisters License, but if the applicant does not have such license, then the Company will provide paid training.
- Qualified applicants must be eligible to be insured under the organization’s insurance policy for duration of employment.
